It’s Still up in the Air

Hey Everyone!

I know in my last post, earlier this week I had written that I hadn’t heard back on the Job I had interviewed for last week. I had kind of been hoping I would hear back by the end of the work day today. Still nothing. At this point, beings that I haven’t heard back yet, I am slowly losing hope that I got it, and beginning to be practical and realistic. When looking for a job, one can’t stop looking for a job, even after a good interview, unless you have an offer in hand from said interview. So being realistic, as much as I want the job I interviewed for last week, if I don’t get it, life will go on, and I just have to keep pushing forward.

This week I have really been trying to relax a bit since the previous couple of weeks had been pretty busy, and March is looking pretty busy as it is, and will be even busier if I am able to get back to work.

The Pink Yarn was on Sale

Hey Everyone!

I am still waiting to hear back about the job I interviewed for this past Thursday. Beings that I want this job, waiting is a challenge, I just want to know if I got it or not. It’s kind of like waiting to hear if you got into your top choice college.

I had ordered some pink and red (even though I am no longer a huge fan of pink) sock yarn a couple of weeks ago, and my order finally arrived today.

The orange looking yarn is actually hot pink.

Today turned out to be a beautiful day. We had a high of about 50 degrees (Fahrenheit) and clear skies. While it is supposed to be getting cold and wet again over the next few days. Next week is looking to be dry, but cool for this time of year. The sunny / partly sunny days and it being dry is definitely getting me in the mood to go hiking again. I definitely miss hiking local trails on gorgeous days. The cooler wet weather is good for staying home and knitting.

The past couple of weeks since I have really been over the cold I have had, has been pretty busy. March is looking to be pretty busy as well.

The Pain is totally Worth It

Hey Everyone!

This past Thursday I had an interview downtown, so Wednesday night I had figured out my transit route and options, since parking downtown is a nightmare and I hate driving downtown. I drove as far as getting myself closer to the nearest max station so I could take public transit downtown.

I had gotten to the max super early, and had bought a day pass, so I hopped on a bus and went to Starbucks (a few blocks away) to get some coffee before walking back to the max stop, to get the max. I made it back to the max stop with a few minutes to spare.

I made it to the location of my interview with time to spare, which was nice, so I had some time to chill and regroup before my interview.

I feel that my interview went well, I am just having to wait to hear back on whether I got the job or not.

After my interview I went to the Chinese Garden (since it was literally a couple blocks away). I took my time walking around. With Chinese New Year coming up, they were in the process of decorating for that. Beings that we have had such a mild winter, some of the trees and shrubs were blooming and they smelled amazing. I also stopped in at the tea house and got some tea since I was there.

I had also decided to go see the US Customs House downtown as it was only a couple blocks from the max station I needed to get back home. I wanted to see the Customs House, as it was used at least for the exterior scenes in Grimm when they are supposed to be coming out of the police precinct. Beings that I loved Grimm, and being that close to one of the filming locations, I had to go see it.

So, this day I had done a lot of walking around downtown in Ballerina Flats, and my leg muscles have been sore since then. When I have had a fun adventure, whether it be doing something I normally don’t do, or I get to go hiking, the pain afterwards is totally worth it for the adventure I had.

Moving???

Hey Everyone!

This past weekend was pretty busy.

Friday Night I had gone “Home” for Pizza night at church, and Sunday I went back down for church.

I am actually excited for March to be here. While I am not wishing my life away, I just have some plans in the works that I am excited about.

I am also ready for the days to be a little bit warmer (like 58 – 62 degrees Fahrenheit would be perfect), so I can get back outside and do some more exploring and adventures.

I have known that Portland isn’t for me, for years. I am ready to move on, find a job some place new and have some new adventures and experiences.

While I am still figuring out where it is I am headed, and while I am still in this part of the State / country, I am wanting to go on a few more adventures here while I still have the chance.

Between having been sick, and the weather not being super conducive to outdoor adventures, I have been working on my knitting projects. I have a couple triangle shawls in the works as well as always having some socks going. The latest pair of socks I am working on, I decided to break out one of the pretty colors of yarn to work with.

While I am further along on this sock than I was when I took this picture, this is the color I am working with.

Last week I did go out on a mini adventure to just get out of the house for a little bit and out of the city limits. I stopped by an old Pioneer Church and rustic / historic cabin (both are on the same property). I enjoy going out on this drive. I love that the country is so close, and not that far of a drive to get to.

It All Started with Downton Abbey

Hey Everyone!

Over the past 3 or so years I have become a huge fan of present day made (made in the last decade or so) period dramas. Most of my favorites are British Period Dramas.

I was late to jumping on the Downton Abbey bandwagon, I didn’t start watching the show until it was in its 5th series, and I started from the beginning, watching them on DVD. I loved how the 6th series of Downton Abbey has come with a bonus disc with the first episode of a couple more shows.

During the Downton Abbey run, I had also watched Mercy Street, an American Period Drama set during the American Civil War in Alexandria, Virginia. From there I watched Indian Summers, which I honestly am not a huge fan of.

From there I started looking up the actors from Downton Abbey to see what other shows they had done. That led me to, Lark Rise to Candleford, which stars Brendan Coyle (Mr Bates on Downton Abbey) at Robert Timmins, the father of the main Character, Laura Timmins.

About half way through the first series of Lark Rise to Candleford, I got watching other shows, some that weren’t Period dramas, others that were. This past month, I have watched the first 3 series of Poldark, series 4 isn’t out yet….as well as the first episode of Home Fires. I have also watched the entire series of Dr Quinn Medicine Woman in the last year.

Like I had mentioned earlier, with the British Period Dramas, I started watching more because I had found out that at least one of the Actors from Downton Abbey was in the show, or I had been able to watch the first episode and enjoyed it and wanted to continue watching the show.

I had seen the first episode of Poldark from the bonus disc that came with my set of the sixth series of Downton Abbey, and then wanted to see what happened do I ordered all three series of it that are currently out. I watched all three series of Poldark while I had let the rest of the first series as well the second through fourth series of Lark Rise to Candleford sit. When I came back to finish watching Lark Rise to Candleford, I realized that the Actress who plays Verity in Poldark is Minnie in show in series 2 – 4. The Actor who portrays Captain Andrew Blamey in Poldark shows up in the fourth series of Lark Rise to Candleford. I was also surprised to see Samantha Bond (Lady Rosamund Painswick in Downton) in one of the episodes of Lark Rise.

At some point after I finish watching Home Fires, and I take a break from Period Dramas for a bit, I want to give Call the Midwife a try and see if I enjoy it at all.

These shows and others have given me something to watch while I work on my various knitting projects.

Slowly Recovering

Hey Everyone!

I am still slowly recovering from the second cold I have had this month. I am feeling better than I was over the weekend, and was feeling great yesterday. I definitely over did things yesterday while feeling so much better.

Today I have definitely been trying to take it easier and not push myself like I did yesterday.

The power had gone out for a bit earlier today. I had been working on a post earlier today while the power was out that I scrapped, and started over.

Yesterday I had decided to bake some gluten free vegan shortbread cookies, which had turned out amazing.

I love getting to use my Scottish Thistle cookie stamp. I had ordered it over a year ago, because I had wanted to try making the Bob’s Red Mill gluten free shortbread cookie mix and I have gotten plenty of use out of since.

I got a package from KnitPicks yesterday so I had wound up the bulky yarn I had gotten (one of the many things I did yesterday), and I had cast on a shawl, so now I have plenty of knitting projects going to keep me occupied while I continue getting over this cold.

Just Can’t Catch a Break

Hey Everyone!

This weekend was a busy one. I was feeling pretty good after having a cold last week. So I had gone about life as usual over the weekend.

Then yesterday I feel like I ran into a brick wall and had taken a few steps backward in the illness department. Last night was rough, my tonsils were pretty swollen all night and have finally gone down as the day has gone on. I definitely picked up another bug.

I shouldn’t be surprised beings my weekend was busy and I was just getting over another bug. My immune system hadn’t completely recovered.

Fortunately, I am able to stay home for the time being, where I can rest and drink plenty of water.

I had a good weekend at least. I got to spend some time with a good friend of mine as well as being in the part of the state I consider to be home.

Sick Over New Years

Hey Everyone!

What was to be day 2 of Birthday (family dinner) got postponed a weekend (and will be day 3 of Birthday). First my dad came down with a cold on Friday, and then Saturday night my mom and I started coming down with it, she and I were still feeling well enough to do tea and treats on my actual birthday, but we have otherwise stayed home the past couple of days.

When one person catches a cold it seems to just go around.

I have seemed to have been the least effected by this bug. I made soup yesterday, and I have been eating, albeit less than normal. I have also been trying to drink way more water.

Being sick is never fun, being sick over the holidays is the worst.

Being sick has given me a chance to spend some more time knitting and getting caught up on the TV shows that I am currently watching.

Second Day of Birthday!

Hey Everyone!

Today, was my second day of Birthday.

Since I found out about the Gluten Free & Vegan bakery in town, four years ago to the day now, it has become tradition to go to the bakery to get cupcakes (instead of Birthday cake) to bring home and then next door to the tea shop for treats and tea. This year we kept up with that tradition.

This years cupcakes that I chose were German Chocolate, Chocolate peppermint mocha, pumpkin spice and cranberry gingerbread. For tea I got a pumpkin spice chai latte with coconut milk, and a pear ginger crumb cake.

This morning I had finished up the pair of socks I had been working on, and now that I am home from treats and tea, I started a new pair of socks 🧦.

Today I haven’t been feeling the best, so other than going for treats and tea, I have been at home where I can lay low and stay warm. I am trying to kick this bug as soon as possible.

First Day of Birthday

Hey Everyone!

So in my last post I talked a bit about what “3 days of Birthday” is. It is a tradition a good friend of mine and her family does and it kind of made sense and definitely something I want to do myself and continue one day when I have a family of my own.

My first day of Birthday was pretty great. My mom and I went to the mall today.

We looked at calendars, picked up some summer sausages since they were having an after Christmas sale, and I got my hair cut at one of the Salons at the mall. I had desperately needed a hair cut. We also stopped and got coffee afterwards.

This is me post haircut:
