This post is more so for me to look back on than anything else.
This season has been completely different from my experience last season. Different store, different team, different management.
Both seasons have been tough but in very different ways. Last season I was in over my head trying to get the hang of things in a very fast paced environment, having never done anything like it before. This season is more physically demanding as I am working more hours, and some longer days. My schedule changes from day to day and it has been hard to make plans outside of work. I realize that is how retail works this time of year, and I am rolling with those punches.
Yesterday we were asked to come in today, so of course I did. Then while we were working, we were asked if we would stay longer. Steph and I chose to stay. We went and picked up lunch at Panera Bread since there is one within walking distance from work. It was so good. We worked until 3 today. I can honestly say I am tired from an honest days work.
Yesterday the first box of my Barnes and Noble showed up. It contained: “Every Breath” by Nicholas Sparks, as well as “Cannery Row” and “The Grapes of Wrath” both by John Steinbeck. Today, “Of Mice and Men” also by John Steinbeck showed up, as well as my KnitPicks Order.
I am kinda ready to have some free time again so I can work on knitting and reading books. I have so many knitting projects to work on and books to read. I love reading, but haven’t been doing enough of it in recent weeks.
One of the things I have realized is that comparing this season and last season is like comparing Apples and Oranges. The only things that are the same are: the company I work for, my employee ID number, and my job title. Last season was predictable, this season is very go with the flow, get creative and your schedule is gonna change almost weekly if not sometimes daily.
Yes, this is what I signed up for even though I didn’t know it when I signed up for it back in September.
