The Day Everyone Was Zombies

Hey Everyone!

This work week is finally over (at least for me anyway).

By yesterday morning everybody who had been working all week was done. You could tell we were all exhausted, and that the week was wearing on us. I feel bad for the two GM’s who have been putting in over 60 hours of work, and are on day 6 or 7 without a day off. You could tell everyone was tired, and that they had reached their limits.

This morning on my way to work I got caught by a speed trap as I was passing a oil truck after putzing behind him for a ways. It was smelly and slow and taking to long after a stop light, so I sped up to get around it, and bam, the flashes went off and there I was. Note to self in the future: take a different route to and from work. This is the city. There are plenty of other ways to get there without taking the freeway.

There is a bath and body works across the little side road, in the same shopping complex as where I work. I got an email while I was at work that their aroma therapy stuff was 50% off. After I got off work, I stopped there and got a bottle of the stress relief body wash and the body cream as well as the almond scented body wash and a container of pumpkin cupcake hand soap.

I stopped and got myself a large soy hazelnut latte from Dutch Bros on my way home before running my other errands.

I also stopped at Target and Fred Meyer to pick up stuff like laundry detergent, icy hot for my achy joints and muscles, my favorite lotion, shampoo, conditioner, tea, and fruit snacks.

Having enough Gas to get me through to payday has been a real stressor the past couple of weeks. Beings that I got paid, I was able to put gas in my car.

Since I have been home, I took a nice hot shower, I used my new stress relief body wash. I also applied the icy hot after my shower and a little bit of the stress relief body cream.

I had some lunch, and now I am just relaxing while I have a load of laundry going. I was so hot and sweaty when I got home, everything needed a bath.

It will be nice to do some knitting as well as being able to catch up on on vlogs and shows I have been missing.

I have been missing being out living in a small town, with wide open spaces.

The craziest schedule

Hey Everyone!

Today is Thursday, right?

This week has been crazy. My work schedule has been all over the place, which means my sleeping schedule has been all over the place.

Monday was great since I had gotten off early enough in the morning that it was still dark when I went to bed, and was a cold, grey, dark kind of day which was great for sleeping. Tuesday, I also got off early enough that I could fall asleep before the sun came up.

Yesterday, was the craziest day of them all. I had started at 1:30 am, got off at 10 am, and then went and saw my mom before I came home. By the time I got home and showered, and went to bed it was after noon. Yesterday was sunny, and even if I had gone straight home it was daylight so going to bed about 11 or after noon didn’t make much difference. I slept a few hours and then had to be at work again at 9:30 last night. That was the craziest, the quick turnaround between the two shifts.

That brings me up to right now, Thursday afternoon, about four and having just woken up for the day after going to bed this morning.

So here I am, still exhausted, ready for this week to be over, yet still having one shift to go before that happens. Fortunately I will have had roughly 20 hours between when my last shift ended and the next one actually starts when all is said and done instead of 11.5 hours and starting my next shift the same day I got off the last night one.

Tomorrow is gonna be good. It’s payday and then it is also the weekend. For now though I need to do some laundry, make some tea and get some food before getting some more sleep before I go back to work.

Christmas Comes Early in the Retail industry

Hey Everyone!

I had today off of work. I have been enjoying a relaxing day at home.

Today has been cold, wet and grey, which has been amazing. It has been so long since we have had weather like this. We ended the last water year over 6 inches less rain than normal, so we really need the rain. It wasn’t that long ago we were in a drought statewide.

Today, I mixed up a half a batch of gluten free vegan chocolate chip cookies, to take in my lunches this next week for work. It’s going to be a lot of work, but it is going to be worth the work.

Today I had a couple cups of tea and have been working on the second sock to the one I finished a couple days ago.

Being out and about, besides at work, Christmas decorations and stuff is out and in full swing, and it’s barely October.

End of my First Week of a New Job.

Hey Everyone!

I have finished out my first week of work. While I am a bit sore and tired, It was a very good week. I love the sense of accomplishment I have after each work day, and that I am earning my own money.

On my morning commutes to work, it still kinda weirds me out how many people are out and about that early in the morning. That is one thing about having lived in a small town that has never left me, the whole being used to no night life and the town rolling up the sidewalks by 8 or 9 pm.

On my way home from work, later on in the mornings, once it is fully daylight, the clusters of tents where the homeless have set up and are living (especially near the freeway) is a glaring eye sore.

I start working my second location in a little over a week. I am going to be very busy until Christmas, and honestly I am very ok with that.

I have slowly been working my current pair of socks. I have still been working on the first sock that I have had to reknit it.

Back to Work!!!

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday was my first day at my new job. I started at 6:00 am, which meant I had to be up by 4:15 am. I was awake a bit before 4, so I got up and started getting ready.

I was off at a 11:00. The 5 hour shift went by super fast.

I am doing what I did last year, at a different location.

My day didn’t end with work, I came home, did a load of laundry, made some easy artisan bread and lentils. I was exhausted at the end of the day.

It was a good day, beings that I am doing the same job I did last year, It is a bit easier jumping it back in to it since I have a good idea of what is going on.

This week is a bit slower which is nice. It is giving me time to get adjusted to my schedule. I am also able to get some more knitting done.

These first couple weeks, while I figure out my schedule and get adjusted, I am laying low on my days off and planning my adventures for a bit later in the month as well as into November. There are several things I want to go do and see.

Still Waiting

Hey Everyone!

I never updated you all on my interview. It was really quick. A little too quick.

I walked away with a tentative offer, so I am still waiting for anything official.

Friday I finished up one of the pairs of socks I have had been working on.

I got them washed and blocked yesterday, since it was a warm day.

Now that work is on the horizon, I am trying to get as much knitting as I can done before I go back to working nights. I love working nights, doing stock crew is physical and hard work. Doing it at night, in the cooler part of the day, is the best.

T’was The Night Before the Interview…..

Hey Everyone!

I had stepped out on the back deck a couple minutes ago to grab what I had hanging out on the line, that I hadn’t wanted to put through the clothes dryer earlier. Beings that today was our 31st day at or above 90 degrees this year, it was plenty warm enough earlier to hang a few things out. Well, anyway, when I had stepped outside it seriously reminded me of how the nights smelled, felt and to s slight degree what it sounded like. It was quiet there for a minute without much in the way of city noise, and you could hear the crickets. It just vaguely reminded me of being at summer camp as a kid.

I have an interview later so I have been trying to keep my mind off of that. I am not super stressed or anxious, but you never know.

At least it is in the morning so I can get it done and go about the rest of my day.

When you Realize that no matter how hard you try, you aren’t where you Belong.

Hey Everyone!

I mentioned it in my last post, that I had an interview on Tuesday, and that I would hear back either way. Well, it’s Friday, and normal business hours have come and gone, yet I still haven’t heard anything. I knew walking out I wouldn’t hear anything. Of all the jobs I have interviewed for, all but one of the job offers I have had came in person, at the end of an interview. So of the 57 Interviews I have had in the past eight years, of the ones where the job offer wasn’t extended at the interview, only one has ever called me. 1 out of roughly 50 where I walked out without a job offer in hand, extended an offer.

In college I didn’t want to move back to the city, but I had to, because we were still in the midst of the recession and there isn’t much in the way of industry to find a job that you can live on in a small town like that, so I (not so willingly) came back to my parents house, in the city.

Over the past eight years, I have pages upon pages worth of documenting all the resumes I have submitted, and applications I have filled out. Out of the several hundred applications and resumes I have submitted, and 57 interviews I have gone on, the best job I have had was a temp job lasting about two and a half years. It also didn’t pay a living wage.

I am the kind of person who likes to work hard, I don’t need much, I just want to live a simple life where I can make ends meet and not hate what I am doing or where I am at.

The biggest reasons I didn’t want to move to the city, and I want to move still, is that I loved having my own space while I was in college. While I am trying to make the best of it while I am here, I am not a fan of the city life, all the people, the traffic, always being on the go, yet every activity costs money to go do, housing has gotten so expensive, yards are getting smaller.

I have been trying to find a way out, but have yet to find it.

I realize this post is rather pessimistic, that is where I am at right now. I am just trying to understand and figure out what I am supposed to be doing with my life, since getting paid to do what I love doing (Homemaking and Knitting) seems pretty unrealistic at this point in time.

I usually try to keep my post more up beat and positive. Today I am just frustrated and a bit pessimistic. I was told at the interview I had Tuesday that either way I would hear back by today at the latest. It’s now almost 7:00 pm and I have heard absolutely nothing. No phone call or email. There used to be a time when someone’s word meant something. Anymore, I learned the hard way, that you really cannot take anyone at their word. Anyone who you can take at their word is very rare.

The Night the Moon Turned Orange

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday I went out because I had another interview yesterday afternoon. I had gotten to the mall early so I had hung out at the bookstore until it was time for my interview.

I haven’t heard anything back from the interview I had two weeks ago, so it is more than safe to assume that I did not get selected to fill the position. I am not a fan of the current way things are done, when companies hang candidates out to dry when they aren’t the ones to be hired. I have come away from far to many interviews and not hearing anything back. My experience has taught me that if they want you they will hire you on the spot or within the week.

This summer has been so hot and smoky. We unfortunately set a new record for the number of 90+ degree days. We have had 30 days with highs at or above 90 degrees.

Our air quality has been pretty bad, we have had quite a few days with air quality in the unhealthy range. There are areas still worse off than we are here. The moon has been so orange from the smoke the past few nights.

Though from the looks of things it looks we have turned the corner on summer and will be starting into fall. The forecast is showing things cooling off significantly, which I am thankful for. I am so ready for fall to be here. The days are definitely getting shorter. Sunrise is quickly approaching 6:30 am, and sunset will soon (like in the next week) be before 8:00 pm.

That being said I am hoping to get a few more raspberries this summer, so I can get at least one more batch of jam this season.

I am looking forward to tea, sweater and handknits weather. I am also wanting to get a few more hikes in while the weather is perfect! I have several pairs of hand knit socks I haven’t worn yet, that I want to get “broken in” before winter gets here.

Another Unhealthy Air Quality Day.

Hey Everyone!

I had an interview last Thursday, and as of today, a week later I haven’t heard anything back. I have still have been applying for other jobs. At this point I don’t expect to hear back from the interview I had. The final decision was to have been made on Monday. While I am not holding my breath that I got it, I am also giving it until the end of the work day Friday to totally write it off.

The air quality here has been pretty bad the past couple of days, to the point where I have physically felt poorly. I can’t imagine how bad it is in places like Redding, Medford, the area east of the cascades, as well as up where my aunt and uncle live in Northern BC. The fires up there have gotten so bad in the past couple of days that my aunt and uncle have had to evacuate across the lake.

I managed to pick two pints of raspberries Monday, as well as two pints of raspberries today. Today I had to wear a mask to go outside and pick berries because of how smoky the air is.

As much as I would have rather have stayed indoors on a day like today, when you have a garden that needs tending, you do what you need to do to be able to have fresh food to eat.

With it being summer and it being so hot, I have been trying to get as many socks worked on as possible.

It looks like we have turned the corner on the hottest part of the summer, and the long hot stretches. Don’t get me wrong, the next few weeks will still be too hot for my liking.

I am so ready for fall. The cool crisp autumn weather is so enticing. The changing color of the leaves, a beautiful sunny, 72 degree October day, with the trees all yellow, orange and red. We can’t forget about the rain, we desperately need the rain with all the wildfires burning at the moment. I am so ready for it to be cool enough again for adventures. Beings that heat and I are not a good combination, as it drains my energy, this time of year i am pretty much forced to stay indoors with the AC, and what little gardening I do, takes all my energy.
