What was to be day 2 of Birthday (family dinner) got postponed a weekend (and will be day 3 of Birthday). First my dad came down with a cold on Friday, and then Saturday night my mom and I started coming down with it, she and I were still feeling well enough to do tea and treats on my actual birthday, but we have otherwise stayed home the past couple of days.
When one person catches a cold it seems to just go around.
I have seemed to have been the least effected by this bug. I made soup yesterday, and I have been eating, albeit less than normal. I have also been trying to drink way more water.
Being sick is never fun, being sick over the holidays is the worst.
Being sick has given me a chance to spend some more time knitting and getting caught up on the TV shows that I am currently watching.
Today, was my second day of Birthday.
Since I found out about the Gluten Free & Vegan bakery in town, four years ago to the day now, it has become tradition to go to the bakery to get cupcakes (instead of Birthday cake) to bring home and then next door to the tea shop for treats and tea. This year we kept up with that tradition.
This years cupcakes that I chose were German Chocolate, Chocolate peppermint mocha, pumpkin spice and cranberry gingerbread. For tea I got a pumpkin spice chai latte with coconut milk, and a pear ginger crumb cake.
This morning I had finished up the pair of socks I had been working on, and now that I am home from treats and tea, I started a new pair of socks 🧦.
Today I haven’t been feeling the best, so other than going for treats and tea, I have been at home where I can lay low and stay warm. I am trying to kick this bug as soon as possible.
So in my last post I talked a bit about what “3 days of Birthday” is. It is a tradition a good friend of mine and her family does and it kind of made sense and definitely something I want to do myself and continue one day when I have a family of my own.
My first day of Birthday was pretty great. My mom and I went to the mall today.
We looked at calendars, picked up some summer sausages since they were having an after Christmas sale, and I got my hair cut at one of the Salons at the mall. I had desperately needed a hair cut. We also stopped and got coffee afterwards.
This is me post haircut:
Today was my first day of birthday. One of my good friends and her Husband had started this tradition some years ago of doing 3 days of Birthday. 3 days of Birthday is where you spread out the birthday celebrations over 3 days. It is where you do different activities over the course of the three day period.
Everyone’s 3 days of Birthday would be different, and can vary year to year. It is not about spending a lot of money, but rather doing activities the person having the birthday enjoys doing and are special.
If you have kids, it could look like one day having their class party, another day having their family party / dinner, and the third doing something they enjoy (in any order).
For me, this year, my three days of birthday looks something like this:
Day 1: Going to the mall with my mom and wandering around (today I also got a hair cut),
Day 2: Family Dinner
Day 3: Tea and Treats at my favorite bakery and the tea shop next door.
Another year was:
Day 1: Hike with my best friend at the time
Day 2: Tea and Treats with my mom
Day 3: Mall and Family Dinner
What I like about the three days of birthday is that each activity can be enjoyed and not rushed since the point is not to be on a time schedule and not trying to cram to much into too little time. For me and my family, doing three days of birthday, means being able to take our time, and enjoy each activity.
