The Pink Yarn was on Sale

Hey Everyone!

I am still waiting to hear back about the job I interviewed for this past Thursday. Beings that I want this job, waiting is a challenge, I just want to know if I got it or not. It’s kind of like waiting to hear if you got into your top choice college.

I had ordered some pink and red (even though I am no longer a huge fan of pink) sock yarn a couple of weeks ago, and my order finally arrived today.

The orange looking yarn is actually hot pink.

Today turned out to be a beautiful day. We had a high of about 50 degrees (Fahrenheit) and clear skies. While it is supposed to be getting cold and wet again over the next few days. Next week is looking to be dry, but cool for this time of year. The sunny / partly sunny days and it being dry is definitely getting me in the mood to go hiking again. I definitely miss hiking local trails on gorgeous days. The cooler wet weather is good for staying home and knitting.

The past couple of weeks since I have really been over the cold I have had, has been pretty busy. March is looking to be pretty busy as well.

The Pain is totally Worth It

Hey Everyone!

This past Thursday I had an interview downtown, so Wednesday night I had figured out my transit route and options, since parking downtown is a nightmare and I hate driving downtown. I drove as far as getting myself closer to the nearest max station so I could take public transit downtown.

I had gotten to the max super early, and had bought a day pass, so I hopped on a bus and went to Starbucks (a few blocks away) to get some coffee before walking back to the max stop, to get the max. I made it back to the max stop with a few minutes to spare.

I made it to the location of my interview with time to spare, which was nice, so I had some time to chill and regroup before my interview.

I feel that my interview went well, I am just having to wait to hear back on whether I got the job or not.

After my interview I went to the Chinese Garden (since it was literally a couple blocks away). I took my time walking around. With Chinese New Year coming up, they were in the process of decorating for that. Beings that we have had such a mild winter, some of the trees and shrubs were blooming and they smelled amazing. I also stopped in at the tea house and got some tea since I was there.

I had also decided to go see the US Customs House downtown as it was only a couple blocks from the max station I needed to get back home. I wanted to see the Customs House, as it was used at least for the exterior scenes in Grimm when they are supposed to be coming out of the police precinct. Beings that I loved Grimm, and being that close to one of the filming locations, I had to go see it.

So, this day I had done a lot of walking around downtown in Ballerina Flats, and my leg muscles have been sore since then. When I have had a fun adventure, whether it be doing something I normally don’t do, or I get to go hiking, the pain afterwards is totally worth it for the adventure I had.

Moving???

Hey Everyone!

This past weekend was pretty busy.

Friday Night I had gone “Home” for Pizza night at church, and Sunday I went back down for church.

I am actually excited for March to be here. While I am not wishing my life away, I just have some plans in the works that I am excited about.

I am also ready for the days to be a little bit warmer (like 58 – 62 degrees Fahrenheit would be perfect), so I can get back outside and do some more exploring and adventures.

I have known that Portland isn’t for me, for years. I am ready to move on, find a job some place new and have some new adventures and experiences.

While I am still figuring out where it is I am headed, and while I am still in this part of the State / country, I am wanting to go on a few more adventures here while I still have the chance.

Between having been sick, and the weather not being super conducive to outdoor adventures, I have been working on my knitting projects. I have a couple triangle shawls in the works as well as always having some socks going. The latest pair of socks I am working on, I decided to break out one of the pretty colors of yarn to work with.

While I am further along on this sock than I was when I took this picture, this is the color I am working with.

Last week I did go out on a mini adventure to just get out of the house for a little bit and out of the city limits. I stopped by an old Pioneer Church and rustic / historic cabin (both are on the same property). I enjoy going out on this drive. I love that the country is so close, and not that far of a drive to get to.

Slowly Recovering

Hey Everyone!

I am still slowly recovering from the second cold I have had this month. I am feeling better than I was over the weekend, and was feeling great yesterday. I definitely over did things yesterday while feeling so much better.

Today I have definitely been trying to take it easier and not push myself like I did yesterday.

The power had gone out for a bit earlier today. I had been working on a post earlier today while the power was out that I scrapped, and started over.

Yesterday I had decided to bake some gluten free vegan shortbread cookies, which had turned out amazing.

I love getting to use my Scottish Thistle cookie stamp. I had ordered it over a year ago, because I had wanted to try making the Bob’s Red Mill gluten free shortbread cookie mix and I have gotten plenty of use out of since.

I got a package from KnitPicks yesterday so I had wound up the bulky yarn I had gotten (one of the many things I did yesterday), and I had cast on a shawl, so now I have plenty of knitting projects going to keep me occupied while I continue getting over this cold.

Sick Over New Years

Hey Everyone!

What was to be day 2 of Birthday (family dinner) got postponed a weekend (and will be day 3 of Birthday). First my dad came down with a cold on Friday, and then Saturday night my mom and I started coming down with it, she and I were still feeling well enough to do tea and treats on my actual birthday, but we have otherwise stayed home the past couple of days.

When one person catches a cold it seems to just go around.

I have seemed to have been the least effected by this bug. I made soup yesterday, and I have been eating, albeit less than normal. I have also been trying to drink way more water.

Being sick is never fun, being sick over the holidays is the worst.

Being sick has given me a chance to spend some more time knitting and getting caught up on the TV shows that I am currently watching.

Second Day of Birthday!

Hey Everyone!

Today, was my second day of Birthday.

Since I found out about the Gluten Free & Vegan bakery in town, four years ago to the day now, it has become tradition to go to the bakery to get cupcakes (instead of Birthday cake) to bring home and then next door to the tea shop for treats and tea. This year we kept up with that tradition.

This years cupcakes that I chose were German Chocolate, Chocolate peppermint mocha, pumpkin spice and cranberry gingerbread. For tea I got a pumpkin spice chai latte with coconut milk, and a pear ginger crumb cake.

This morning I had finished up the pair of socks I had been working on, and now that I am home from treats and tea, I started a new pair of socks 🧦.

Today I haven’t been feeling the best, so other than going for treats and tea, I have been at home where I can lay low and stay warm. I am trying to kick this bug as soon as possible.

First Day of Birthday

Hey Everyone!

So in my last post I talked a bit about what “3 days of Birthday” is. It is a tradition a good friend of mine and her family does and it kind of made sense and definitely something I want to do myself and continue one day when I have a family of my own.

My first day of Birthday was pretty great. My mom and I went to the mall today.

We looked at calendars, picked up some summer sausages since they were having an after Christmas sale, and I got my hair cut at one of the Salons at the mall. I had desperately needed a hair cut. We also stopped and got coffee afterwards.

This is me post haircut:

UrbEx and Knitting

Hey Everyone!

This weekend was pretty low key. Friday afternoon once I got up from sleeping after I had worked that morning, I baked some gluten free and dairy free brownies. The rest of the weekend I pretty much spent watching youtube videos (especially Urban Exploration videos) and working on my knitting projects.

I spent time working on one of my triangle shawls as well as working on the sock I currently have on my needles.

The past couple of weeks have been incredibly busy, and this weekend I just needed to lay low and relax.

Currently my favorite UrbEx channel is the Proper People. I also used to watch The Unknown Cameraman, but the last video he uploaded on Youtube was uploaded 8 months ago.

I am not one of those people who is brave enough / has the guts to go urban exploring, though I do enjoy watching the videos that some of the people who do go Urban Exploring make of their adventures. Don’t get me wrong I love creepy, old, no longer used / abandoned places, though I tend to stick to places like Fort Stevens (where exploration is encouraged) to get my abandoned places fix in person. The kind of abandoned places I find interesting are the ones that have history (like old forts, prisons, churches, train stations, schools, mansions, and ghost towns). I love old buildings, and I definitely enjoy exploring these kinds of places that have been restored / maintained and are open to the public for the purpose of exploring and learning about the history / way of life there back when it was open or a going concern.

I have loved learning about how live was lived during different time periods in U.S. History, and in different parts of the country (though History of the American West is still my favorite), as well as different parts of the world. For me, History is so much more than just names, dates, wars and military events. I am more interested in what every day life was like, especially for the women and children.

On the Go day after day

Hey Everyone!

Since Thanksgiving, life has been going non stop. 3 weeks of full on, full force going and doing. The past three weeks have flown by.

Yesterday I had another interview, which I thought went well, but I have to wait and see a bit to find out if I got it.

After my interview I had gone for a little drive to clear my mind a bit. Afterward I ran a couple errands. I had stopped at Bob’s red mill, picked up a couple baking mixes, before stopping at the grocery store to pick up my brother’s Christmas present and a few other items.

I had work this morning. I even slept for a few hours since I got home, but I am still exhausted.

I had one of my orders of yarn arrive this morning while I was asleep, so I opened it up this afternoon.

The darker yarn is a worsted weight yarn, that has more yards per hank, while the off white / cream colored yarn is a bulky yarn that has fewer yards per hank (hence more hanks).

I have been enjoying being able to work on different knitting projects. I have a lot of yarn and so many ideas of what I want to make with it all. I am still working on socks, but I am also in a shawl mode as well.

As I sit here writing this, I have a batch of gluten free dairy free brownies in the over and it is overcast outside.

In a blink of an eye it is mid – December

Hey Everyone!

I know I have missed another couple days of blogging this month. Life has just been so busy since Thanksgiving.

While I have had a few down days so far this month, my planner is reflecting the craziness that tends to be December (Christmas is literally in a week and a half).

Today was one of those busy days, where I wasn’t home most of the day and when I was home, I had a lot to get done.

I had driven down to the capital for a meeting, and had done some shopping while I was there. I had also driven out to see a good friend of mine, and take her coffee.

I left that area a little before 4:30 this afternoon to head back to the city. I got caught in rush hour traffic. That is always fun. I had stuff to put away when I got home, a load of laundry to do, and a few other things. This was the second trip down to that area in a week and a half. I really have missed living there. While a lot has changed, including me, the fact that I love it there hasn’t changed.
