I prefer doing my shopping in person

Hey Everyone!

As Christmas is only a few short days away, Shopping is on Everyone’s minds.

While Online shopping is sometimes the best way to go (especially if why you want isn’t widely available in stores). With that being said, I prefer to do my shopping (not just Christmas shopping, but shopping in general), in person.

I prefer to see, smell, feel, try on, and all the in person. In the past I have gotten scented stuff that sounded good on the website that then, to me smells disgusting in person, or clothes that don’t fit right. Being a knitter, being able to feel yarn before I buy it is also preferable.

Then there are issues with shipping. You have to wait for things to arrive, if they don’t get lost or delayed on the way. Some companies are better than others, and some are down right horrible (like DHL).

If I lived out in the boonies, I would definitely consider getting Amazon Prime, for the stuff I use but wouldn’t have access to without making a several hour round trip, but living in or near the city (like the suburbs or just outside of that), it is easy enough to come into the city and the shopping options are still readily available.

That is just my take on things. Though I will still order the things I cannot find easily in the stores around me. If you are running all over town looking for a certain item, then it might actually be cheaper to order it when you factor in time and gas.

Last Time going to the Beach….

Hey Everyone!

I have been trying to write a blog post a day on this blog, yesterday it just didn’t happen.

The eventful things that happened yesterday were getting my Clinique order in the mail and finishing up a pair of socks.

Today was a busy day, it started out by getting up earlier than normal and getting out of the house early (for me anyway), so I could get gas in my car, stop at Cost Plus World Market to look for stocking stuffers, and then stop at target to pick up a couple items before I left town for a few hours.

I had been paying attention to the weather forecasts for a few days and they were calling for some nice days, with sunny skies and comfortable (for this time of year) temperatures. I have been itching to go to the beach for a while. I have missed it so much, and the past couple years I had gone a good half a dozen or more times each year, so the three times I had gone this year just wasn’t cutting it. Beings the weather was supposed to be perfect at the beach today (and it was), I went. I had also wanted to go one last time while I am in my 20’s. Once this month is over, I will no longer be in my 20’s. I realize the beach won’t change that much between this past summer and this next summer, but I will be in a new decade of my life, and want to close out this decade by doing stuff I enjoy doing.

After I got home, I got things put away, I showered, got some dinner, and then successfully started my latest pair of socks. That’s a story for a post on my Knitting blog. So now I am back to working on another pair of socks.

Rough Week

Hey Everyone!

This week has been a tough week. There has been tragedy that has hit myself and many others I know.

With that being said, I am drained.

I am not going to focus on the negative stuff, so I will share with you the good stuff that happened this week.

Thursday I made my mom her birthday pie, since her birthday is this month. I made her a cherry cream cheese pie.

Thursday I also picked up a few more Christmas ornaments and decoration-y things. While I am more of a Merida / Brave fan as far as Disney Princesses go, I already have a Merida, an Aurora and a Pocahontas ornament, I got a Cinderella ornament to add to my collection. I also got the last 3 ornaments I had seen at work that I liked. I also had picked up a string of clear mini lights, as I had picked up a fake garland with fake berries on it as well as a string of wooden snowflakes that I plan to use on a mantle or entertainment center.

The past few days I have been working on knitting up more socks and trying to work on getting up as much of the sock yarn I have knit up as soon as I can.

Going to the Mall for the first time in Months

Hey Everyone!

Today was another one of those kind of crazy days. At least this time I got a little sleep before going out and about for a bit. I also ran errands on a day where I don’t have to be up later in the evening to work again that night, as I have tonight / tomorrow morning off.

My errands included stopping by the store where I work to purchase the last couple ornaments I had been eyeing for the past week or so, as well as a stocking.

While working my department yesterday morning, we had gotten these journals in, and I was like “oohhh, I need to get me one of those”, so I got that as well.

When you work at a store that carries Christmas ornaments this time of year, and they give you a discount on pretty much everything in the store, you shop ornaments and decorations while the picking is still good. I wanted to make sure I purchased one of each of the ornaments and decorations really liked to add to my small, yet growing collection of Christmas decorations before they sold out and we were not going to be getting anymore in.

What I have noticed, at least with the store I work at, that different holidays come out super early (we were getting our first Christmas stuff in Mid-September and by late September we were starting to wind down Halloween, and now by not quite mid October, Halloween and autumn/Thanksgiving are being phased out and shrinking the area the are in as the stock on hand is dwindling. We aren’t getting much if any new fall and Halloween stuff in. That is why I wanted to get what I liked for Christmas early on in the season even though Christmas is still more than two months away, and neither Halloween nor American Thanksgiving have occurred yet.

While I was out in the area of my work, since it is next to a mall, I had wandered around the mall for a bit and stopped by yankee candle and had picked up a couple candles (since it was buy one get one free for the size I bought). I got two of the apple pumpkin scent candles as the scent kind of reminds me of Scentsy’s Apple S’mores.

On the rare occasion I go to the mall (I hadn’t been to a mall in a few months), the mall I was at today is not the one I usually frequent, I just stopped there because my work is there, and I know how my store is laid out, so I am more comfortable shopping at the store I work at. I really wasn’t impressed with this mall.

After my foray to the mall, I stopped at New Seasons to pick up some of my favorite Smith Teamaker Tea – no. 47 – Bungalow.

Busy Tuesday

Hey Everyone!

This morning I worked my normal shift at work, then afterwards the crazy busyness ensued. Afterward, I came home got food, showered and got ready for an interview (for a second job), and went to said interview.

My day really didn’t end there, I also had some errands to run. By the time I got done running around town, dealing with things like going to the bank, getting bills paid, and a couple fun errands like picking up some Christmas decorations since I could get them with my employee discount, and got new earrings that I can just leave in and not have to take out to shower or sleep, it was a busy day.

By the time I got home and got food, and went to bed for the day, it was a little after 2 pm.

Now I am up again and need to start getting ready for work again.

I should hopefully hear back on the second job by the end of the week.

That is one thing I never really missed about the city while I lived in a small town, how busy running around town a day could be. I really didn’t miss the hustle and bustle of the city. Sometimes even now that I have been back for years it still is overwhelming.

It’s Christmas

Merry Christmas!

I have been spending a nice quiet Christmas knitting and watching Downton Abbey.

Yesterday I had run errands. Beings we had had our family Christmas this past Sunday, I was able to go Christmas shopping for myself.

Earlier in the month I had ordered the illustrated Cooks Book of Ingredients for myself. I had received a gift card for REI so I went to REI yesterday and picked up an REI Flash 58 pack, as well as a Steripen and a water bottle.

I had also gone to Joann Fabric and Craft, where I had bought a couple of Christmas Pot Holders, some ribbon and two skeins of Fishermen’s Wool in Natural. I am planning on using it to make a wrap.

I have also been thinking about my future and where I want to move. I still am torn between Alaska and Colorado. Both places have great outdoor activities and history. I would love to learn how to snowboard and go hiking, among other things like putting all my hand knit winter accessories to good use on a more regular basis.

Hey Everyone!

The past couple weeks have been insanely busy. Last week I had training. This week was back to normal, and it flew by. Today was a busy day, I finished up my Christmas shopping, went to Bob’s Red Mill, then went to Fred Meyer, Trader Joe’s, new seasons and Safeway before getting Thai food to go. After I got home and had dinner I put in a Scentsy Order as I am trying to round out my stash of Scentsy wax bars. I have a pretty good stash started, but with job hunting and wanting to move, I am trying to have a stash stocked up so when that move happens I will have Scentsy for a while. I want to be able to make my new place smell like home from the time I move in.

Yesterday I had got thinking about all the adventures I have been on this year. From hikes in the city to going to Seattle for a night and going up to the top of Mt Saint Helens. Going back through my pictures I was surprised at how many adventures I had actually gone on this year. Like seriously, the travel bug bit me hard when I went to Hawaii 8.5 years ago. I have been wanting to travel and explore ever since.

From the time I was young (like early teens) I had felt the pressure to get married and settled down. As I have gotten older I have been bucking that pressure as getting married isn’t in my foreseeable future, I came to the conclusion that until I meet the kind of guy who loves traveling and adventures as much as I do, I am not going to settle for just any guy, just because society and the culture I was raised around says I should have been married by 23. My 23rd birthday has come and went all before I had gone to New York on my own. In the years since I have realized that there is more to life than marrying young, and having babies right away, there is a whole big world out there to explore and learn from.

In 2016 I am looking forward to some hopefully good changes as well as many more adventures.

Hey Everyone!

The past few weeks have been crazy! I have neglected you guys lately, and I am sorry about that, I will try to be better about blogging more consistently.

A couple weeks ago it was like a switch was flipped and fall came in, in full force. It looks, feels and smells like fall. This past weekend we got more than 2 inches of rain. It feels amazing.

I have been enjoying my pumpkin roll scented Scentsy wax, I am totally enjoying this time of year. With all the rain we had over the weekend a lot of the leaves have fallen off the trees.

Beings that I work 4 ten hour days, most of the time I feel like my life is boring. On the days I work, I get up at 6 am, shower, eat breakfast and then start work at 7:30 am, and then eat lunch at noon then end my work day at 6 pm. I eat dinner, then usually watch YouTube videos and knit or read a book until I go to bed between 10 and 10:30. This past weekend I had gone to the mall and picked up a few last fall/winter essentials and took advantage of the sale at the Bath and Body Works, all their fall hand soaps (like pumpkin cupcake) were half off, so I got 4 for the price of 2 at regular price.

Beings that life has been crazy (like seriously, what happened to October? It just started), as well as the time change and stuff that is going on in life, Figuring out what’s next for me, and living my own life (being an active participant rather than a passive observer) I have been exhausted. Though I am hoping that since the weather has turned, life will slow down and I can try to get caught up on sleep.

I am also trying to get more knitting projects done, since I have several sitting around, that need to be worked on. I keep telling myself that I need to limit myself to two works in Progress at one time, any more and two just sit for a long time.

Shopping is Normal

Hey Everyone!

It has been a busy couple of weeks here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I last posted about my trip up Mt. Saint Helens. This past weekend I went to the Coast, to go on one of the last Fall Splendor Excursion trains that the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad runs on the weekends in October.  The past couple months I have been updating my fall and winter wardrobe, as it still pretty much was made up of the clothes I wore in college. Beings that I am working, and the fact that I was due for a wardrobe overhaul I have done some clothes shopping. I have added several tops, a couple sweaters, a jacket and some new jeans to my closet. I also weeded out a lot of clothes that I don’t really wear anymore. It’s like it hit me that I am really in my late 20’s now, so I needed to start dressing like it, rather than continuing to look like I was a 20 year college student who couldn’t be bothered to put on more than jeans and a sweatshirt.

While in general my style hasn’t changed since I was 20, the fact that I am actually trying a bit more to make it easier to look “put together” when I go out, with as little effort as possible. I still love the layered look, so I have made it easier by having a few staple pieces and having different over tops and a cute jacket to complete it.

Part of why I love having Friday’s off, is so that I have a week day to play with, and actually have a just because I want to day to do my hair (and when I get more contacts) and makeup, and feel confident when I leave to go run errands. I spent so long not caring really about how I looked, and my self confidence had taken a hit. When I had started using makeup regularly and doing my hair (even if it was something simple) I felt better about myself and more confident.

Today I had gone to the mall (for the millionth time it seems like in the past two months), which is becoming a common occurrence in my life lately, the city is taking hold again on me. I had gone to get more jeans and to look at boots, I got the jeans and ended up with a new pair of Vans, some Bath and Body Works hand soap and some hair stuff from Lush. I was also checking out different stores as some have started Christmas stuff, and I am looking for a cute Christmas Apron, but didn’t find anything I liked, so I am just going to have to keep looking as December gets closer.

In the past few weeks is has definitely decided it wanted to be fall. When I went up to Mt. Saint Helens, it still felt kinda summery, but now it is chilly, grey and rainy. Beings that the weather was turning, I put my toms away to keep them as nice as possible until next spring, when it starts drying out. That is part of why I got another pair of vans, while I love my Doc Martens Boots, I don’t want to wear them all the time, so I wanted something that could hold up well in the rainy weather yet still be cuter than Nike athletic shoes (going back to the whole dressing my age thing).

Becoming one of THOSE Girls

Hey Everyone!

Right now I feel like I am becoming one of those girls who spend their free time going clothes shopping and spending money on hair care products, and time doing my hair. I would be doing my make up too, that will have to wait until I can get more contact lenses.

Yesterday I had spent like $40 on a bottle of shampoo, conditioner and a bottle of moose stuff that Ashley, who had done my hair, had used on my hair.

I totally did my hair this morning and it was super easy, and it turned out super cute.

This past month I also did a fair amount of clothes shopping which is something I rarely do.

So yeah I am feeling like I am becoming one of the girls I kind of rejected when I was younger. From what I can see my style is really in style this season, which is awesome for me.
